What is the purpose of Mission i6:8 Mexico Trips?

The purpose of these trips is to provide opportunity for you to make a difference in impoverished communities by partnering with the local programs, churches, and families. We have learned over the years to listen to these community leaders’ hearts by volunteering through our house-building program, community outreach efforts, VBS, feed a family programs, eye glass clinics, and so much more. These efforts help strengthen the connection between the local church, community leadership, and the people we are now serving.

There are massive amounts of people in the Tijuana area and beyond who cannot afford these services for their families. Therefore, through your efforts and these connections with their local leadership, their needs can be met. We trust that through the work we do and the relationships we build we will have many opportunities to demonstrate the goodness of God as we follow His request in Isaiah 6:8 “Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?  And I said, “Here am I Lord. Send me!”

How much does this summer’s trip cost?

The cost is $450 per adult. Children under 12 are $250. There’s an early registration discount of $50 if you register by May 31st. There will be no refunds given after that date.

What does the cost cover?

  • Transportation from/to San Diego Airport to/from Rancho La Paloma
  • Transportation to and from Rancho La Paloma to the worksite each day
  • Accommodations and all meals (We do our best to meet special dietary needs)
  • Trip t-shirt

Any other out-of-pocket expenses above and beyond the trip cost (hotel, air travel, meals en route, passport fees, travel to San Diego, etc.) are the responsibility of each individual team member. We cannot accept donations toward those expenses, nor are they tax deductible.

All extra funds will be used by Mi6:8 to help offset ministry expenses.

How many people will be on this BCM/Mi6:8 Trip?

There are usually 100+ people who participate each summer. This is a combination of churches (Twin Lakes Church, Santa Cruz Bible Church, Boulder Creek Community Church and Riva Trace in Maryland) plus individuals attending on their own.

What are the deadlines?

Please register by May 31st for the $50 discount and to be guaranteed a t-shirt. Final registration and full payment due by June 5th. There are no refunds given after May 31st.

How do I get to the San Diego Airport on Wednesday, June 19th?

You can fly or drive your own vehicle to the San Diego airport. We offer transportation from the San Diego airport to Rancho La Paloma in Mexico.

Since transportation into Mexico departs from the San Diego airport by 4pm on Wednesday, please plan on taking a flight that arrives into San Diego no later than 3pm (you want a safety buffer in the event of a delayed flight). Also, you are welcome to go down to San Diego at an earlier date and return later if so desired to extend your experience in Southern California.

Another option is to speak with other TLC or Santa Cruz Bible participants to work out car pooling or simply drive to the San Diego Airport and meet at the team rendezvous point.

What if I do not have construction skills?

Everyone is welcome! Though we hope to get several people who have construction skills and/or equipment, we also want to make this trip open to all. On the job training awaits you to learn how to hammer, paint, and engage in many small projects.

In addition, MI6:8 is very active in engaging with the local Churches who are ready to provide simple serving opportunities for our team that will make an enormous impact in their community.

What if I don’t speak Spanish?

Not a problem, Mi6:8 will have translators available.

Where do we stay?

Mi6:8 uses Rancho La Paloma for accommodations. The ranch has dormitory-type rooms, and team participants will want to bring a sleeping bag (sometimes if our group gets too big we may ask you to bring an air-mattress for children under 18). Bunk beds will be assigned in advance and you may request who you share a room with on the registration form. The Ranch has a pool and camping field area.
Learn more about Rancho La Paloma.

What should I bring?

There is a helpful list of items that will be provided during our early meetings. It is also essential that you have a current US Passport (that doesn’t expire within 6 months of the trip).  To learn more visit travel.state.gov.

Also, if you have construction tools, anything you bring will really maximize the experience for everybody. Allowing others to use some of your tools (under your supervision, of course) will enable those without tools to still help with construction.

What will be expected of me on this trip?

We are expecting that each person who attends is:

  • A team player who is willing to yield their own agenda to that of the greater group
  • Flexible, especially since God often changes our plans on these trips
  • Committed to the team and its purpose: a common focus is a must!
  • Open to a cross-cultural experience and willing to be a “guest” in another country
  • Willing to help however needed; all will need to contribute in a variety of ways
  • Positive and encouraging toward other team members and the local community
  • Supportive of Mi6:8 (its staff, vision and unique way of doing things)
