Mexico Border Crossing Information

1) Mexico Entry Requirements

Government issued ID may be required from ALL individuals in private vehicles.  It WILL be required, however, from all travelers if you enter on a commercial bus via the San Ysidro/Tijuana crossing.
Accepted documents for entry to Mexico are:

U.S. passport book
OR
U.S. passport card

Enhanced Driver’s Licenses are not accepted for entry into Mexico.

In addition, commercial bus passengers will be required to fill out an FMM Visa entry form at the border. You can do so when you arrive at the border, OR you can fill it out online, and print it ahead of time.  You will present this printed form with your ID at the entry point.  It is much faster doing the latter, and filling it out online.  Here is a link to the online FMM Visa form, and instructions on how to fill it out.

2) U.S. Re-Entry Requirements

The same ID’s listed above are REQUIRED to re-enter the U.S. by Land. Note that you CAN use an Enhanced Driver’s License (EDL) for re-entry into the US, but it is not accepted as a valid ID for entry into Mexico.

3) Border Crossings

Click on this link for the maps page, and read section 1) Getting to the border crossings for the details on getting to the Mexican border crossings.  We recommend you enter Mexico via the TECATE border crossing.
